Global warming is having a dramatic affect on the worlds climate and the predicted hotter
and drier conditions in the future will mean longer drier periods and under average rainfall
for many countries..
The UK, with it’s ever growing population fuelling a greater demand for water, will surely
see quickly, depleting water levels during these dry periods, resulting in water shortages
and more hosepipe bans.
To help combat this problem, we need to start being more efficient when using water in all
our everyday activities. Not only will this help prevent water shortages in the future, but it will
help those people with water meters save valuable money.
Below are some useful tips for those who want to save money and save water: -
(1) Fitting a water meter encourages people to reduce their water consumption, saving
water and money.
(2) Installing water butts outside to catch rainwater from the house roof, garage roof,
outbuilding roof and greenhouses.
(3) Installing dual flush toilet cistern or adjusting ball cock to reduce intake of water.
(4) Install and use a shower and avoid having a bath.
(5) Recycle shower and bath water if possible.
(6) Only boil the correct amount of water when required.
(7) Avoid using sprinklers and hose pipes on the garden.
(8) Leave buckets, troughs outside to catch rain water for the garden.
